Give Them Grace: a book review

This past week I was given the wonderful opportunity by www.faithvillage.com to review the book “Give Them Grace”. The best part was that I was already anxious to read this book (“pinned” it on Pinterest).

The book arrived the same week my husband was out-of-town on a business trip. Very timely. It helped me rethink through my parenting and how I corrected my children (a little more Gospel, a little less screaming). =)

Here is a small excerpt of the review. You can find the complete article over at FaithVillage.

“If you struggle as a parent to accept that your children will never be perfect and find yourself creating more rules when your children start to get out of line, you’ll benefit from reading Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus.

Written by mother-daughter team Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson, Elyse candidly shares how she struggled with “moralism” while training her children and did not apply a grace-based parenting method. Her daughter, Jessica, shares her mother’s struggle of wanting children who make her look good while at the playground.

Pastor Tullian Tchividjian’s foreword speaks to a parent’s transformation from law enforcer to Gospel teacher and grace-giver. He perfectly addresses any religious baggage one may have in regard to grace:

“The biggest lie about grace that Satan wants Christian parents to buy is the idea that grace is dangerous and therefore needs to be ‘kept in check.’ By believing this, we not only prove we don’t understand grace, but we violate gospel advancement in the lives of our children.”
