1 mom about to have her 4th boy who contacted me thru this blog.

Talking face-to-face for 3 hours about God-centered mothering while sipping Starbucks…PRICELESS!

One year ago I started God Centered Mom based on a calling. A calling I received after speaking at our church’s MOPs group. Born from a desire to share my journey of humility and encourage other moms. A perfect ministry for me in this season.

Not only has writing been a calling & ministry, blogging has been my therapy. Helping me process the mundane and the extraordinary of the past year.

Shortly after launching God Centered Mom I discovered I was “miraculously” pregnant. Then dealt with the reality I would once again not have a daughter.

This year I’ve been robbed and I’ve broken my foot (both firsts for me). All of these events added to the daily lessons of seeing God in it all. To trust Him. Not just with words. To truly TRUST He has my life in His hands and I don’t have to worry.

First Vlog…

Had my cute, little helper make my first vlog. If I look tired…I was/am. (Note Knox’s reaction to my mention of a 2nd blogoversary.)

The Next Steps…

1. No more Few Favorites Friday

Looking forward to this next year of God Centered Mom I’ve decided to stop doing my “Few Favorites Friday” posts. Even though I love how they allowed me to reflect on my weeks and see the blessings. In the future when I have a great activity or resource to share it will be in its own post. This will allow for easy referencing (hard to find an activity when all posts are labeled: “few favorites friday”).

2. Tuesdays with Murray (ok this title came from my husband…)

I’ve decided to share the wisdom of Andrew Murray on a weekly/semi-weekly basis. I shared a quote from him in my “Sibling Summer Survival Guide”. Here is some background on Murray:

“South African pastor and author Andrew Murray (1828-1917) was an amazingly prolific writer, writing over 240 books.”

One book he wrote, “How to Raise your Children for Christ”, contains 52 short chapters. Each chapter deals with a different area of parenting based off a portion of Scripture. He begins in Genesis and his last chapter is based off Hebrews. At the end of each chapter he has written a poignant prayer based on the parenting topic. It’s simply wonderful!

Given his depth of Scriptural knowledge and experience with his own 8 children, I am hopeful it will be a blessing to many. My goal is to read the chapter and summarize it for you here.

Last but not least…

To celebrate a year of attempting to keep God center, I would like to giveaway one of the many books influencing my efforts: “One Thousand Gifts”.

This version of “One Thousand Gifts” was signed by Ann Voskamp. She is a beautiful woman of God, inside and out. When she speaks you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and no longer see her. Her artfully crafted words have shaped my blogging experience and my God-centered mothering.

If you would like to win this autographed copy, please leave a comment below. Giveaway ends June 11, 2012.

Thank you again for a great first year!! Excited for all God will continue to do!

  1. Heather, congratulations on one year of blogging and one year of encouraging moms! I am so proud of you, but I am also giving praise to Him who uses you as His vessel. I very vividly remember the few conversations we had about you starting this blog, and God has used it for His purposes! No doubt He will continue to in year two! Love you girl!

  2. Congrats on one year of blogging! I found your blog just a couple of months ago, and have found what you’ve shared to be very encouraging. Thanks for sharing and being a blessing to us moms!

  3. Congrats on your 1 year blogoversary!!

I have been reading your blog over the last few months, after I came across this page from a fellow SLP. I LOVE reading your blog and have found that it seems to bring some perspective, into this “newly-wed’s” brain, motivating me to think beyond myself, give more than take, and most of all, replace me with Christ. Most days I seem to fail more… but somedays are better 🙂 I will miss Few favorites Friday, but I am excited about your new adventure 🙂 . Thanks for all the positivity you bring to this blog!! You have a beautiful family. May God continue to use you to minister to the “lost” (AKA “me”)

Also, I would love to enter the giveaway but the Raffle copter website doesn’t seem to know how to get me to your rafflepage :-\ Are there specific instructions you could share?? (Not sure if this is just me….)

    • Thanks so much Elizabeth for your kind words! Thank you for letting me know that the giveaway website wasn’t working. I just found out that it is incompatible with my site. Bummer!! So your comment has you entered to win. Thanks again!

  5. With my son turning one-year-old on Wednesday, this blog couldn’t have been started at a more perfect time for me. I appreciate all you put into it and sharing your heart and soul. It has totally blessed me.

    • This has quickly become one of my favorite blogs. I’m blessed to be the SAHM of three little boys and as you know, there isn’t much sitting around. My hearts dearest desire is to raise them to be men of God. Thanks for your sweet reminders to keep Christ in the center of the craziness that is our lives. I’m looking forward to the next year (and I’m really looking forward to the Andrew Murray posts!)

  6. Congratulations!!! Your blog has bee a hug blessing to me. I look forward to your posts and each one feels like it is written just for me. I would love a chance to win a copy of the book. It sounds like it is an excellent book.

  7. Congrats on your one year anniversary. I found you not all that long ago but it has a beena great blessing to me and my family. Thank you.

  8. I have loved following the blog as I continue to try to build my relationship with God….The book sounds like a wonderful summer read to help me on my journey.

  9. Thanks so much for a great year Heather! So appreciate, you and your God-centered perspective. All the boys help too:)

  10. Congrats on the anniversary! It has been such a blessing in my own mothering journey to read your blog on a regular basis. I wish we lived closer like when we were little, but at least through reading your blog, I feel a little a part of your life. To many more posts…….

  11. I started reading your blog sometime last summer and didn’t realize until today that you hadn’t been blogging long. I’ve enjoyed your insight into mothering and especially your emphasis on our need for the Holy Spirit. I also wanted to mention how something you shared around the holidays has changed my life. You wrote about how being out of your routine (you had been on vacation) had been good and also not so good, as you had not been having regular quiet time with God. You then shared what your normal at home routine looked like and how you get up every day before your children to have quiet time with the Lord. That was something I had been wanting to do for a while, but had always found an excuse not to – mainly that I was either pregnant or nursing a little one and up all night! I remember thinking that you had 3 young children and were pregnant and STILL getting up early to spend time with the Lord. From that moment on I committed to do the same and I have been so blessed! My relationship with God has greatly deepened and I feel that my mothering has changed for the better, as well. So, congrats on your 1 year of blogging. I look forward to reading more about your adventures and laughing in understanding, as a fellow mom of 4.

    • How crazy to think back in 3NE you and I would both be moms of 4! So thankful getting up early has been as beneficial to you as it has for me. It truly is life-changing. Thank you for your encouragement!

  12. I found your blog four months ago and it has been such a blessing! I look foward to reading it three days a week! I delieverd our second son in March and we now have a 22month old and a 2month old, and your journey and stories sound like mine. Your precious heart and desire to be God centered are my desires as well. I pray for you often, & even though we dont actually know each other I want you to know God is using you to inspire others. May God get the glory! Would love to read this book and hope one day you write your own!

  13. I hope there are many more ICED soy lattes in your future…and many more hours found to wrie and share your thoughts with us! Cheers to you, Sister!

    • Thank you dear friend! Thank you for opening my eyes to the glories of iced soy lattes. Thank you for your encouragement and making this one year journey worth every second!

  14. Yay! Congrats on the one-year blog anniversary! I’m so glad to have found your blog 🙂
I would love an opportunity to win this autographed book since it’s been on my WL for a couple years now!

  15. Since receiving your email missles I have set myself to becoming more God- centered everyday. I know I have much to be thankful for and need to work on showing this to others. I would love to receive the autographed copy of “One Thousand Gifts”. Thank you for this opportunity.

  16. Hi there. A string of providences brought me here this morning. I started reading Ann’s book this week, borrowed from my mother-in-law. I finished chapter two this morning. Finding time to read with five little ones in not my strong suit, but I am loving every dripping-with-wisdom word of it! I would love to win my own copy! How I got here: My friend mentioned that photos of her flowers made it onto Ann’s blog… Ann’s blog had a link to something she is thankful for, an article about her presence on Twitter… from the article a link to #1000gifts tweets… from the tweets to the “enter-to-win”… voila! The web is a crazy connected place but not nearly as connected as God’s providence. :o)

  17. Hi Heather! … No need to include me in the giveaway. I have Ann’s book, and it’s amazing. (An understatement…)

Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I found you through Bill Jensen. Happy writing, and God bless you on this journey.

  18. What a year you have had! Which makes your achievement of your first blog-anniversary all the more a reason for congratulations and our admiration for not only surviving the year but for keeping on keeping on encouraging Mums all over the world with your wise posts.
May the Lord grant you a much less dramatic second year, with lots of time to spend with Him to receive all He has for you, which you so generously share with us.
You are an awesome woman of God!

    • Mary, YOU are a gem!! Thank you so much for your encouragement. When I posted about my blogoversary I didn’t anticipate all the wonderful words of encouragement and love. Thank you so much! I also hope for a less dramatic second year. 😉

  19. I have been meaning to read this in my “spare time.”. Waiting for that to happen. I love your blog, and have been so encouraged by it! Thanks!
